Saudi Arabia is a monarchy founded in 1932. It has the second largest known oil reserves in the world.
It is also the home to the sacred mosques of the Muslims, the Mecca and Madina, famous for the Hajj pilgrimage.
The constitution is based on the tenets of the Sharia law and Quaran. With scarce resources in agriculture, petroleum remains the chief resource of the country. Saudi Riyal is the currency.
The fast growing economy is also unique with a high per-capita income. Soccer, scuba diving, wind surfing, falconry and Basketball are popular sports. India has an embassy in the capital city, Riyadh. |
