On the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea lies Israel. It is a country with an extremely fertile maritime plain. The southern Negev region which is almost half the total area is a large desert. The Jordan a very important river, flows from the north, through two lakes, and then flows into the Dead Sea which is below sea level. It is the lowest land elevation in the world. The second lakes through which the river flows, called Lake Kinneret is also known as the Sea of Galilee. Christians, Jews and Muslims consider Palestine a holy land. Palestine is the homeland of Modern Israel. To the ancient Hebrews it was known as Canaan. The Embassy of India is located in Tel Aviv.
